Happy 2022, Everyone!

Happy 2022, Everyone!

The women of WCJC had a lot to be proud of in 2021!

We opened our new office on the Advent Health Campus this time last year. We are now settled in and happy with our new home (and the doctors are happy with the quicker run to Labor and Delivery!).

Employee Recognition

We began an Employee Recognition Program including quarterly recognition awards and our first ever Employee of the Year award! We are grateful to have a wonderful staff and look forward to continuing to acknowledge their hard work this year.

Award-Winning Staff Support Programs

In the spring, we were nominated for a national award (the Healthcare Innovations Annual Innovator Award) for our on-site tutoring center. During the period of remote learning, we provided free on-site tutoring for our staff’s elementary school children. We recognize the juggling act of being a working parent and were thrilled to be recognized for our innovative solution to provide relief to our staff, allowing us to continue to provide high-quality care for our patients!

Years of Service

We wished a happy retirement to our beloved Dr. Jessie Holmes (20 years of service), our nurse Chris Ferguson (18 years of service), and our medical assistant Ms. Brenda White (16 years of service). We are thankful for their years of excellent patient care at WCJC. Dr. Holmes served her patients with kindness and compassion, and we wish her the best retirement. We miss Chris’s smart sense of humor and Ms. Brenda, we still miss your hugs!

Fundraising

In October, we fell just shy of our goal of raising five thousand dollars for the Susan G. Komen foundation during breast cancer awareness month, but we had lots of fun trying! We will get there next year.

Healthy Mothers & Babies

Lastly, we welcomed nearly TWO THOUSAND babies into the world in 2021! We couldn’t be more proud that you moms chose us to care for you during your pregnancies. Thank you!

We look forward to helping you achieve your health goals in 2022. Start your year off right and call us to schedule your Annual Exam!

Congratulations to Our First Employee of the Year!
Kristen Melius

Kristen was one of our first nominees for an employee recognition award. She serves as our lead sonographer. She is a proactive manager, regularly coming up with solutions for her department that help us improve both our sonography skills and our patient experience. She also manages a fantastic team of women with intelligence and compassion. She is quick to help, volunteering her days off when we are short-staffed. She always values excellent patient care, ensuring patients are comfortable, and taking the time to talk them through the process. Patients are always complimentary of her wonderful bedside manner.

We LOVE having you on our team, Kristen!

Dr. Lombard’s Top 5 Ways To Improve Your Health in 2022:

5 Tips For a Healthier New Year!

1. Commit to Healthy Eating as a Household! Making a plan and involving your family will help keep everyone in check with making good food choices this year. Getting your spouse, kids, or roommates involved helps to ensure that the menu items are foods everyone will enjoy. Sharing a common goal also keeps you on track when you might be tired and thinking about ordering a pizza instead of making that healthy stir-fry you had planned!

2. Move Every Day. It is difficult to get back into the exercise routine! Many of us gave up our gym memberships during the pandemic and haven’t found a replacement. Some of you will feel safe after your covid vaccine and booster and re-join your gym or class that you love. Maybe some will replace their trips to the gym with home workouts or walking their pandemic puppy! However you choose to move, aim for five or more days per week for optimal heart health. Remember how great it feels after you’ve been back at it for a bit??? You just have to take the first step and get started.

3. Say No More Often. This one is SO HARD! You do not have to be a part of every project, every school event, or every social engagement. Sometimes saying no and setting boundaries is the best thing for you.

4. Take care of your mental health. This might be a simple daily mindfulness exercise. It could also mean seeing your doctor to get started on an antidepressant or following up with your therapist regularly. Prioritizing your mental health means different things for everyone, but keeping it high on your list of priorities is imperative.

5. Stay up to date on preventive care! One of the best things you can do to keep your health in check is to see your physicians for routine screening—preventive care screens for problems before you notice any symptoms. Cancer screening can help detect cancer early when it is treatable. Checking your blood pressure and cholesterol before you have heart health symptoms can help you prevent cardiovascular disease.
