We typically perform a pap smear during an annual exam and can test for abnormal cells that may indicate signs of cervical cancer. If a pap smear returns back abnormal results, we will be sure to guide you toward the next steps to taking control of your health.

Using a colposcope, your WCJC provider can examine the cervix and vulva for any signs of disease or other general concern. We may recommend a colposcopy if your pap smear returns with an abnormal result.

Ultrasound technology allows us to view, and sometimes diagnose, a variety of gynecological areas and concerns. While we can perform ultrasound exams over the abdomen, we can usually get a much better picture by inserting a small ultrasound wand into the vagina.

During an Endometrial Biopsy, we remove a small amount of tissue from the uterus. Then, that tissue is sent to a pathologist to be examined under a microscope for signs of abnormalities, cancer, etc. We recommend this test for patients experiencing postmenopausal bleeding.

Typically performed before an Endometrial Ablation for patients experiencing abnormal bleeding, a Hysteroscopy is a thin, lighted tube that can be inserted into the vagina to check the uterus for abnormalities or concerns. We can perform this test in an office setting without incision or dilation.

For our expecting mothers, we will perform ultrasound examinations of the fetus throughout the pregnancy to ensure appropriate placement (uterine pregnancy versus ectopic or tubular pregnancy), fetal heartbeat, and general anatomy and overall health.

In addition to common prenatal check-ups such as blood pressure, heart rate, and ultrasound, WCJC offers additional screening and diagnostic testing to check for any potential birth defects or genetic conditions.

The staff at Women’s Clinic of Johnson County understand the importance of receiving test results in a timely manner. Depending on your test or anticipated diagnosis, we will be sure to clearly communicate when you can expect to hear back from us. If you have signed up for our patient portal, we will contact you through the portal to discuss abnormal lab results and further recommendations. If you have not signed up for our patient portal, we will call the phone number associated with your patient file and if we do not reach you, we will leave a message containing your results—if you have given us permission to do so. Our patient portal is a convenient way to review normal results, communicate with our staff and ask questions.

Depending on what test you are seeking, we can accommodate additional tests and exams during your annual visit given sufficient notice. When scheduling your annual exam, please express to us any concerns you might have, so we may preemptively prepare any tools or tests necessary to be ready for your arrival.

Every insurance provider and plan is unique. WCJC will bill any gynecological tests or exams first to your insurance company (with the exception of your co-pay, due at the time of your visit). Please contact your insurance company to verify your coverage.

If you need any tests that require fasting (liquids, solids, or both) we will schedule it in advance so you are fully prepared and that the test results are not skewed in any way.

We are happy to coordinate your test results with any other physician or caregiver you wish. We will simply ask you to fill out a medical records release form including the physician’s name, address, and phone/fax numbers. If you anticipate wanting to share results with a doctor at another office, be sure to come prepared with this info. This step is not necessary if the provider practices at WCJC.
