February is Heart Health Awareness Month

WCJC is prepared to Go Red in February to spread heart health awareness! At WCJC we are ready to celebrate Go Red month, a national program promoting women’s heart health awareness.

Heart disease is the number one cause of death in women, but fortunately, 80% of heart disease is preventable! It is more important than ever to take good care of our hearts during the COVID 19 pandemic. People with heart disease are at much higher risk of severe disease and death from COVID 19.

Your best steps for prevention are to eat healthily, avoid smoking, and stay active. Following a consistent diet full of fruits and vegetables and low in animal fats and processed sugar helps prevent heart disease. Moving daily is also key. Simply walking for 20 minutes 4 or more days a week significantly reduces your risk for heart disease. Everyone has time for that!

Early intervention is a critical factor in survival rates and women too often miss the early signs! Click here to learn more about heart disease warning signs in women:  https://www.goredforwomen.org/en/about-heart-disease-in-women/signs-and-symptoms-in-women

Dr. Carrie Grounds shares her passion for helping women feel their best!
Having a baby is beautiful! Aging into a mature woman should be too.
Who hasn’t heard, “Look Good, Feel Good, Do Good”? Who hasn’t gotten a new hairstyle or new outfit to lift their mood?! How we look affects how we feel and in turn how we interact with the world. Looking good does not mean that there is one definition for beauty or that we must accept societal standards for beauty. When we feel that the person in the mirror reflects our “best self” we become our “best self.”
Life takes its toll on our physical beauty. Aging and having children change the way we look and tend not to match the way we see ourselves. I have seen this in myself. With each of my four pregnancies, I saw changes in my body and face that unfortunately, my commitment to a healthy lifestyle and exercise would not un-do. In addition, turning fifty this year has added even more accumulative changes to not only my physical appearance but also my ability to recover from the demands of work and family. These changes in myself are hard to accept and play a role in my self-image and emotional wellbeing.
This has led me to want to pursue options that focus on helping both my patients and myself find ways to enhance our appearance. in a medically safe, nonjudgmental, and low-pressure environment. I want to help our patients find their best selves and improve their confidence and self-worth. My goal is to help each of you find the “new outfit” that enhances the already beautiful person you are and not attempt to try to create a standard look for beauty.
