Celebrate May with WCJC & Alora

A Mother’s Day Tribute from Dr. Rips

May is a month of typically balmy weather and flowers. May is also when we celebrate Mother’s Day. This day was initially established in 1907 as a way to honor the sacrifices that mothers make. It was recognized as an official holiday in 1914. WCJC recognizes and appreciates all of the mothers we are honored to care for.

While we are busy celebrating moms we also need to remember to celebrate all the women who have played a significant role in our lives. Women who have taught us nurtured us, loved us, and served as role models. Grandmothers, sisters, aunts, teachers, coaches, and friends have played important roles in all of our lives.

Mother’s Day can be a bittersweet time for one group of mothers in particular. Women who have lost a child during pregnancy, infancy, childhood, and adulthood can find this day to be a painful reminder of their loss. People struggle with what to say and how to acknowledge the absent child. Mother’s Day will always be difficult for these women no matter how much time has passed since their loss. It is important to recognize their loss and acknowledge that they are still a mother to that child. If you know a mother who has lost a child, please take the time to see how she is doing. Listen and give her the opportunity to talk about how she feels.

I have been very lucky to spend many years caring for women and helping them get their families started and expanded. I thought it would be fun to share pictures of one family and the two generations of children I have been involved in delivering and caring for, both with pregnancy and ongoing women’s healthcare.

This family includes Christine (mother and grandmother), her three daughters (Abby, Alex, and Ashlyn), and Abby’s two sons. It has been a blessing to watch your family grow!

Thank you to Christine’s family and to all who have allowed me and the providers at WCJC to participate in your care. We feel honored by the trust you place in us.

We wish you all a Happy Mother’s Day.

Welcome, Dr. Pullen!
