Let’s get fit WCJC!
with Dr. Carrie Grounds
Here at WCJC, we want to help you continue your journey to a healthier life. We know the pandemic has created many obstacles to achieving your fitness goals. We commiserate in the struggle to overcome the challenges the pandemic has added to your lives. Instead of turning to a bottle of wine, let’s use the support of each other to promote a healthy connection outside of the office.
How can we do that, you ask? Simple, there are 2 options:
Peloton
First, get yourself the Peloton app (if you don’t already have it, you will thank me later). You don’t need the Peloton bike or treadmill to connect with us. We’ve created a WCJC community to support each other. Just add #WCJC! Then, we can all connect and support each other by meeting up in classes including running, strength, bike, boot camp, etc. I will even post a weekly class on our Facebook page to help motivate everyone to a healthier 2021. You can also follow me at my Peloton name BabyCatcherKC or Dr. Mathiesen at her Peloton name dremrocks. And maybe once the pandemic ends, we can meet at the office for a run or other healthy activity.
Glo
If you are a lover of yoga and pilates and prefer to be upside down while exercising, the second option is to get the Glo app and hook up with Dr. Amanda Healy (who can now do some forearm handstand thing!) On Glo, you can download yoga, pilates, and meditation exercises of all lengths to do even when you are without Wi-Fi or attend live classes. Dr. Healy will post the weekly live classes she is attending on our Facebook page and hopes to see you there. Then you yogis can impress us when we someday get to hold a yoga event at our office!
Even better: Feel free to do both!
Here’s to supporting each other achieve an active and healthy 2021 & beyond!
Treat Sun Damage with our January Special
With normal daily sun exposure, skin changes like sun spots, lines and wrinkles will accumulate. Fractionated CO2 laser therapy offers dramatic results in the reduction of these changes with a onetime treatment.
How does it work?
Fractionated CO2 lasers are considered the “Gold Standard” for skin resurfacing ablation technology. They deliver laser energy that heats the water in your skin cells removing the surface layer of skin and stimulating the lower layers of your skin to stimulate collagen production. The body’s natural healing process replaces the damaged skin with new skin during your recovery.
What is the procedure like?
Before the procedure, you will need a prescription for an antiviral if you are prone to cold sores. On the day of the procedure, you may feel more comfortable if you pre-medicate with an oral sedative medicine, in which case you will need a driver!
We will apply a topical anesthetic, then cleanse your skin to remove any skin bacteria prior to your treatment. The treatment is then performed by slowly moving the laser over the targeted skin area. This should be comfortable following your anesthetic.
We will then apply a post-treatment regimen, which you will continue at home.
What is recovery like?
Recover from the procedure takes 7-10 days on average. During recovery, your skin well be quite red, will peel and could swell. You can reduce swelling with ice packs. You will need to cleanse your skin at least twice a day with our recommended cleansing product and protect your skin with our recommended moisturizers.
It is very important to avoid sun exposure during recovery and you will need to use sunscreen liberally even for indirect sun exposure and on cloudy days.
Risks of the procedure include burning, bumps, rashes, scars, swelling, infection and hyperpigmentation as well as cold sore outbreaks. These are reduced by carefully following your pre- and post-procedure instructions.
Why now?
Facial lines and wrinkles from sun damage are best treated in winter. During your recovery from a resurfacing procedure, protecting your delicate new skin from the sun is key. And it’s ON SALE!
